Oak Ridges Moraine

The calming waters of both Soper Creek and Bowmanville Creek play an important role in the species diversity found amongst the Oak Ridges Moraine. These forests and surrounding wetlands provide a home to many threatened plant, insect, and bird species in Ontario.

The Oak Ridges Moraine is an environmentally sensitive ridge of land forming the watershed divide between Lake Ontario and Lake Simcoe; it is located about 60km north of Lake Ontario, is approximately 200km long, and is the source of over 30 rivers.  It stretches from the Niagara Escarpment in the West to the Trent River in the East.

An important part of the watershed, Soper Creek, runs through our property and southeasterly across the northern part of Bowmanville, merging with Bowmanville Creek before emptying into Lake Ontario.

Hiking Trails

hiking - the activity of going for long walks in the country for pleasure (Oxford Learner's Dictionaries)

The wonders of our forest come alive when you allow yourself to reconnect with the natural world around you.  Take a peaceful journey through the Oak Ridges Moraine; participate in self-guided meditation, forest bathing, as well as outdoor yoga opportunities.  Stop at one of our wellness spots for a moment of mindfulness.  Each of our trails leads back to our main common area, The Stomping Ground.

We have 3 hiking trails meandering through the beautiful 15-acre property, which provide an opportunity for you to adventure into the unknown.  During your hike, you'll find yourselves enjoying one of our two creeks, experiencing the sounds of many different species that inhabit the forest, and discovering designated meditation and yoga stations along the way.

Don't forget to bring your camera, you never know what animals you might spot!

Wildlife Hospital

Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is Durham Region's only wildlife rehabilitation hospital.

Wildlife rehabilitation is a free service offered to everyone in Ontario and is not funded in any way by the government. We rely on the community's donations and support in order to be able to accept sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.

In 2021 we were able to accept over 2,000 wild patients. Since 2016 we have admitted over 8,000 animals into the hospital.

By booking an overnight experience at one of our villas you are helping to save a WILD life!
